2026 DIRT OVAL RULES

General Rules

·       All qualifiers and mains should be 4 minutes in length; qualifiers should use IFMAR starts.

·       Turn marshals should not work on or repair cars during a race. Minor issues like popping on a ball cup for a steering link are okay.

·       If a pit lane is available, cars must enter and exit the racing surface via the pit lane at all times.

·       Any cars damaged and placed in the infield will remain there until that race is over.

·       All drivers must turn marshal the race immediately following their race.

·       All cars will be made available for tech inspection before and after the race if required by the race director.

·       Once a car has gone through pre-race tech, it must go directly to the track or impound area and not back to the pit area.

·       All racers must have a personal transponder as required by the race organizer.

·       All Classes are required to use 2S Hardshell LiPo Batteries. Max 6,500mAh.

·       To ensure all competitors follow safe charging methods, all batteries may be checked before each race to ensure battery voltage is a maximum of 8.44 volts or less. If the battery reads 8.45 or more, you will be given the opportunity to run off the overvoltage and re-tech, but the race start will not be held for you.

·       Gyros and/or Traction Control Devices are NOT ALLOWED in any class

 

Race directors will have ultimate authority over rules enforcement. The primary basis for any rules decision must be what is best for the majority of racers.  If an item is not addressed in the rules listed here, then you should assume it is not legal.

 

*Sprint car rules*

·       All cars must have a scale appearing roll cage, hood, side panels, nerf bars, and bumpers.

·       Minimum of a 4-post cage required that resembles a driver's cock pit.

·       All electronics and radio gear must be positioned inside the cage side frames. Three-dimensional scale appearing exhaust headers are recommended, but not mandatory.

·       Rear cage side panels may be used, but may not extend more than .250” beyond the rear cage frame.

·       No Lexan or any other material may be mounted to nerf bars, bumpers, cage, wing, or any other parts of the car that will trap, alter, or direct air flow for the purpose of gaining an aerodynamic advantage.

·       Wheelbase must be within 9.50” and 11.50”. Max width is 10.00”.

·       Must have an appropriate opening on both sides of the cage in the driver compartment; the forward portion of the side panels can be no taller than the highest point of the hood.

·       Maximum length: 18.00”

·       Maximum width of hood: 3.60”

·       Maximum cage width at driver halo, down tubes, and top frame rail: 3.60”

·       Maximum chassis width: 4.025”

·       Maximum cage height from top of chassis to top of highest point of cage: 5.5”

·       Minimum vertical gap from top of hood to front cage crossbar: .750”

·       Wing minimum height at leading edge: 5.00” from the front bottom of the chassis.

·       All cage and body components, such as cages, bumpers, nerf bars, hoods, side panels, tanks, etc., must be mounted on the centerline of the cage. Chassis may not extend outside of the side panels by more than 1/4" on either side.

 

 

WING RULES

·       Top wing minimum height at leading edge: 5.00" from bottom of chassis. Top wing maximum height at leading edge: 6.50" from bottom of chassis.

·       Center sections and side panels must be made from at least three (3) separate pieces of polycarbonate or carbon material. (NO ALUM side panels allowed)

·       Main and Front wings must be mounted so that they are centered on the cage, with no offset wings.

·       Wing center sections must have all four (4) corners set at 90-degree angles, no canted or angled panels.

·       Wings must also be mounted level from side to side

·       Center section of wing may not extend beyond the leading or trailing edge of the side panels.

·       Side panels must have braces that hold the side panels rigidly at 90 degrees to the center section during race conditions. Two (2) braces are required from the top of the center foil to the left sideboard, and two braces are permitted below the center foil to the right sideboard.

·       Braces can be a maximum of .750” wide, and the front edge of the front brace must be no more than 1.5” back from the side panel leading edge. Side panels may have a front, back, top, and bottom turnout of no more than .375” and included in the max dimension. Flat-foil center sections will be allowed a .250” turndown at the leading edge.

·       Wing size used will be 7×7. Driver numbers must be posted on both sides of the wing's side panels.

 

MOD SPRINT

·       Any ROAR APPROVED brushless motor (No KV equivalent motors allowed)

·       Any ROAR APPROVED ESC may be used in any mode (Blinky or Open Timing)

·       2S Hardshell LiPo Battery

·       Rubber tire open

 

13.5 WINGED SPRINT

·       Any ROAR-approved 13.5-turn sensored brushless motor

·       Any ROAR APROVED ESC must be run in Blinky mode only

·       2S Hardshell LiPo Battery. Max 6,500mAh. Max 8.44 volts.

·       Rubber tire open

 

13.5 WINGED SPRINT – SPEC TIRE

·       Any ROAR-approved 13.5-turn sensored brushless motor

·       Any ROAR APROVED ESC must be run in Blinky mode only

·       2S Hardshell LiPo Battery. Max 6,500mAh. Max 8.44 volts.

·       Front Tire: ProMotion “Quick Time” 2wd 2.2” Front, T2 Compound, Part Number 4015-F-T2

13.5 OUTLAW TRUCK: 2wd Stadium Trucks

·       12" minimum width.

·       Any ROAR-approved 13.5-turn sensored brushless motor

·       Any ROAR-approved ESC must be in ‘blinky’/non-timing mode

·       2S Hardshell LiPo Battery. Max 6,500mAh. Max 8.44 volts.

·       Battery must remain in stock-centered location

·       Rear or Mid Motor

·       Must have a multi-gear transmission

·       Must use commercially available stadium truck suspension arms.

·       After-market chassis is ok.

·       After market towers ok.

·       Short or long shocks ok.

·       Internal limiters, pistons, springs, and oil changes allowed.

·       Rear Toe must be the same on both sides.

·       Side Dam - Length: rear of cab to rear spoiler. Height: top of cab to tip of spoiler.

·       Tires & Wheels: Rubber tires only. 2.2” buggy-based rear wheel only (buggy rear width minimum) open tire. Buggy rears ok on all four (4) corners. No buggy front tires/wheels. Stadium Truck tires and wheels are ok.

Open Short Course Late Model

·       Short Course Late Model Bodies only (MRKustoms, Shark RC bodies, etc.)

·       Any ROAR-approved 2s hardcase LiPo battery, 6,500 mah max, shorty ok

·       Chassis is open to any manufacturer of 2WD 1/10th scale short course trucks (Team Associated, TLR, LOSI, Traxxas, etc.)

·       Custom Chassis are allowed (Belfab, Xtreme, ECT…) Maximum chassis width 7’’ Minimum Chassis width 5- 1/8’’.. Maximum left side chassis can extend from centerline is 3 ½’’.. right side must be a minimum of 2 ¼’’ from centerline to outside edge of chassis. Any Material may be used, such as aluminum, carbon, Plastics, etc.

·       All Suspension components, transmission, front and rear bulkheads, and battery must be on the centerline of the vehicle.

·       Maximum wheelbase 13 ¼’’ Minium wheelbase 12 ¾’’

·       Maximum Track width 11 ¾’’ Minimum track width 11’’

·       Standard Over the counter short course wheels and tires 2.2’’ 3.0’’

·       Standard over the counter 1/10th scale surface electronics.

·       Adjustable rear Suspension arms are allowed.

·       Any over-the-counter 1/10th scale shocks may be used and must maintain travel in all four (4) corners of the vehicle.

Street Stock

·       2wd Buggy-based cars, TLR, Associated, Schumacher, Traxxas buggy, etc....

·       No aftermarket chassis allowed

·       Rear motor car or Mid-motor car

·       Any 2s hardcase LiPo battery, 6,500mah max. Max 8.44 volts.

·       Battery in stock location

·       Any ROAR-approved 17.5 motor

·       Any ROAR-approved esc must be in blinky mode

·       Any street stock body sold by a known manufacturer, no wedges or late model

·       Windows cannot be cut out

·       Must retain rear bumper on body

·       1-inch max rear spoiler, measured from the deck lid

·       no side dams (end caps) on rear spoiler

·       Adjustable arms are not allowed

·       Tires must be inside of the body

Traxxas SUPER STOCK:

·       “BOX STOCK” Traxxas 2wd Slash chassis or LCG chassis only.

·       Body • Any full-body stock car made for Traxxas Slash or SCT only. (ex: Shark RC /McAllister RC, Jconcepts) Most drag SCT bodies will work.

·       Spoiler: No more than 1 1/2" from deck lid.

·       Absolutely No Decking, windows must remain intact.

·       ONLY RPM durability upgrades are allowed. Front caster blocks part #80712, front bearing carriers part #80372, and rear bearing carriers/hubs part #80382.

·       Transmission case must remain stock. NO plastic internal gears. NO RPM TRANSMISSION CASES

·       Transmission functionality rule: the motor cannot spin while turning slowly one rear wheel a full turn.

·       83, 86, and 90t spur gear allowed.

·       pinion gear may only be 16t-20t ONLY.

·       Electronics: ONLY “BOX STOCK” Traxxas 2wd Slash OEM electronics may be used(however you may change receiver to accommodate your Radio) Traxxas XL-5 ESC part #3018R, :

·       Traxxas Titan 12T 550 brushed motor part #3785 and Traxxas stock 2075 steering servo. Any Servo arm or servo saver is ok.

·       Any 2S hardcase LiPo battery that is 6,500mah maximum capacity. The battery must remain in its stock-centered location.

 

Adjustments:

• Items you may adjust: Camber, front toe, ride height, shock oil, pistons, shock limiting, shock preload, factory shock locations, and battery location front to rear. Arms must remain stock and in stock position.

: NO ADJUSTABLE REAR ARMS.

• There is no weight rule. Additional weight CANNOT be added!

Suspension:

• Traxxas aluminum shock caps are allowed. • Stock Traxxas 2WD Slash shocks must be used (grey or black versions both allowed). Front bodies and shafts stay in front, and rear bodies and shafts stay in the rear stock location, front on front and rear on rear.

• Only Traxxas 2WD Slash springs may be used, original white or pink. Front spring part #5857/P and rear spring part #5858/P.

Dirt Midget Rules

 

All height measurements are from bottom of chassis unless otherwise noted.

 

General - Maximum Overall Length: 16.750". Maximum Chassis width: 4.2" Maximum of 4 shocks can be used. Solid axles are allowed. If solid axles are used the rear axle must be square with centerline of the chassis and parallel to the front axle.

 

Wheelbase- Min 9.” Max 10.0”

 

Width- Min 8.5” Max 10.0”

 

Rear Toe- Only non adjustable rear arms can be used. Trackside toe adjustable rear hubs and or arms are not allowed. Trackside adjustable wheelbase is not allowed (can’t have toe blocks or anything else attached to an easily adjustable mechanism to allow for wheelbase change trackside). Left rear can be toed in via toe block. Right rear can be toed in but can NOT be toed out.

 

Offset- Right side of the cage can be no further offset from the outside of the RR tire than 3.625”

 

Ballast Weight- Brass, tungsten or steel hubs, arms, arm inserts, caster blocks, steering arms are not allowed. Ballast weight can be attached to the main chassis area is allowed as long as it’s secured properly.

 

Transmission – 3 gear transmissions only. No DD, 2, 4 or 5 gear transmissions will be allowed. All gears must be full gears. No narrowed or lightened gears allowed. Plastic, Aluminum and Steel gears are permitted. Steel outdrives only. Blades are permitted. No gear diffs allowed. No rear motor cars allowed unless you can do it in a manner that the tail tank is appropriately sized and located.

 

Solid Axle Option- If a solid rear axle design is used it, the motor must be mounted to the chassis and cva/cvd must be used to drive the rear axle. No belts or chains will be allowed. A spur gear and pinion must be used in conjunction with the motor plate mounted to the chassis.

 

CVA/CVD- Dog bones must be equal length. Axles and bones must be made from steel. No aluminum, titanium or magnesium axles or bones allowed.

Battery - 2S hardcase lipo

 

Tires – Tire choice is track/event choice. This class must be on a spec tire and only 1 spec tire is allowed at an event or track. Promotor can choose the tire that works best for their event but must make a choice on only one tire option for this class. If there are multiple compounds of the same style of tire then they can be used. No cutting, grooving or modifying the size and shape of tire is allowed (foam tires are allowed to be cut and grooved).

 

 

Cage – Must have a scale appearing contemporary cage made out of rounded stock. The cage must be symmetrical left to right and mounted level to the chassis. Unrealistic shaped cages designed to exploit the rules below are not permitted. Maximum cage width at driver halo, down tubes, and top frame rail: 3.600". Minimum cage height is 6.00” while maximum cage height 6.25" from top of chassis to top of cage at highest point. Rear “down tubes” must slant forward. All cage and body components such as cage, bumpers, nerf bars, hoods, side panels, tanks, etc. must be mounted on the centerline of the cage. Chassis may not extend outside of the side panels by more than 1/4" on either side.

 

Bumpers – A tubular front bumper must be used and may not be designed to direct air or create downforce. Maximum height of front bumper is 1.5” from the bottom of the lowest point of the chassis. Scale appearing side nerf bars must be used on both sides of the car. A scale appearing rear hoop style bumper must be used. Bumpers and nerf bars must be made of rounded stock with no sharp edges.

 

Tail tank – A traditional scale appearing rounded style three dimensional rear fuel cell must be used. A rectangle (Swindell) style rear tank is allowed but must have a proper style rear bumper to go with it. You can not simply have a flat tail section with no bumper.

 

Headers- Three dimensional scale appearing headers must be used on the left side of car in “engine area”. Material must be plastic or aluminum. Not allowed to make inserts for these to add ballast weight.

 

Side panels – Flat side panels may be made from molded or fabricated polycarbonate. Maximum height of side panels in front of the driver cockpit is 4.50” from the bottom of the chassis. Must have minimum of 1/2" high by 2.5" long openings on both sides of cage in driver compartment. Additional material may be used/added to either side of the side panel openings to replicate a scale appearing driver but may not exceed 1" x 1". Side panels may not extend beyond the cage by more than 0.25”. Side Panels may not extend into the area that is behind the rear axle AND below the top of the rear nerf bar. Scale appearing driver arm guards and engine vents may be used but cannot extend more than 3/8" from the side panels. No other flares or turnouts designed to deflect, trap and/or form a pattern for air to travel in a directed manner are permitted except for those used to cool electronics.

 

Hood – A scale appearing hood must be used and is defined as beginning at the point where torsion tubes or cross brace would be on a 1:1 car behind the front bumper. The hood must be tall enough and wide enough to allow room for a scale engine intake and air cleaners (no unrealistically low or flat hoods). Minimum vertical gap from top of hood to bottom of front cage crossbar.

 

Nose Area – No molded or fabricated nose piece may be used and is defined from the torsion tube or cross brace would be on a 1:1 car. You are not allowed to have anything below that point that is on the same plane as the hood. No scoops or bodywork allowed in this area. You can have side panels along the front of the cage but they are not allowed to stick past the cage sides.

 

Extra Panels – No molded or fabricated scoops, wings, or extra panels can be added to the car to create downforce. The panel in the cockpit area that is used on full size cars at the Chili Bowl is not legal
